The final design concept is complete

Thank you to those who participated in this engagement! Take a look at the What We Heard Report for a summary of community feedback. This feedback and other site location factors were reviewed and are now included in the final design concept (shown below). Watch out for construction in the coming months.

Key design features

Engagement participants reviewed two design concepts and shared feedback on their preferred park elements. The final design concept uses the ramped and flowing features from concept option #2 and adds them to concept option #1. It balances the scale and size of the street style terrace platform from concept option #1 and includes ramps throughout that feature. The miniramp is combined with the main skatepark to offer more ride options while simplifying the construction. Overall, the rideable square footage is 6,100sqft.

About this project

In 2023, the Abasand Skatepark was removed to install new water main pipes to support Abasand, Downtown, and much of southern Fort McMurray. The skatepark will be rebuilt to continue supporting recreation accessibility for residents in the area.

Funding for this skate park has already been approved as part of the Saunderson Pressure Reducing Station project.
