Engagement on this project is now complete. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your thoughts!

You're invited to review the Anzac Church Memorial and Garden Boxes What We Heard Report to learn about the community's feedback. This report also highlights steps that have already been completed based on your feedback and what steps will be coming next.

The residents of Anzac have enjoyed the use of the public gazebo park and community garden spaces over the years. The time has come to re-evaluate the purpose of this space and how it can best be organized to include the church memorial, garden boxes, and Public Art bench. We will first hear the community's perspective to create the best space for residents.

The former church stood in this park as a landmark providing the community with many memories and is an important part of their history. As such, the footprint where the church was located has not been built on. Following the churches demolition in 2016, several items were saved including pews, the glass cross, pump organ, bell, wooden plaque, and stained-glass panes. The community requested a memorial for the church to be constructed using the saved items.

Engagement will play a key role in this project and will be provided through collaboration with residents of Anzac, community groups, and the Willow Lake Métis Nation to ensure the memorial honours the rich history of the church and the memories of the residents.

Public engagement was completed in 2021 to determine the future location of the community garden boxes. This project is an opportunity to continue the discussion and consider the overall design of the park, with its new and exciting additions.

There are different options available for the location of the memorial. The options are shown below.

Social Gathering Space: Should We Have One?

The space currently being used by the community garden boxes at the gazebo park was initially intended for a social gathering area that residents could use for barbeques, picnics, birthday parties and family get togethers. Should we still pursue a social gathering space in this location? Share your thoughts below! IF NO: If you don't think we should have a social gathering space, the garden boxes can stay in their current location. IF YES: If you think we should have a social gathering space, the garden boxes will need to be moved. Continue working through the discussion questions to have you say in where the garden boxes would be moved to.

Community Garden Boxes: Should They Move?

If it is determined by the community that a social gathering space is desirable, the garden boxes currently located at the gazebo park would need to be moved. There are two potential locations that have been determined as candidates for the garden box program to continue operating with water supply support. Which of these options is your preference? Do you feel it is as accessible to participants of the program? Please Note: The garden boxes currently at Woodsmoke Elders Lodge and the Recreation Centre are in their permanent locations and will not be moved. Anzac Recreation Centre: The garden boxes at the gazebo park would be moved to the Recreation Centre, with full access to water supply for the gardens. 2) Anzac Gazebo Park Tree Line: The garden boxes at the park near the gazebo would be moved back toward the tree line (a few trees may be removed in this case) with continued access to water supply for the gardens. For your consideration: Does this provide accessibility to various groups or people who may participate in the program? Does this allow for as much sunlight as is necessary to grow produce?
