In December 2020, the Municipality launched a public engagement campaign to seek input on the design of the proposed pedestrian pathway included in the design of reaches 7 and 8, the berms being constructed around Longboat Landing.

From December 15, 2020 to February 15, 2021, seventy-six (76) surveys were completed and include additional comments from fifty-nine (59) of the survey respondents. In response to the question “Do you support the current design of the pedestrian walkway on the berm” 64 per cent responded “Yes”; 25 per cent responded “No”; and, 11 per cent responded “Other”.

The additional comments provide insight into the neighbourhood’s divergent and strong preferences for how the area on and around the berm will be developed. Respondents expressed desires for community gardens, additional parking, family-friendly play spaces, a return to natural plantings (native grasses), “dark sky” safe lighting, a patio or small area for public barbeques, and benches.

These responses were offset by strong opposition to the increased vehicle congestion and parking demands, and loss of privacy that would result from a pedestrian pathway in such close proximity to dwellings.

The full engagement results are available in the Documents section of this page, and warrant a design review by Administration regarding the pedestrian pathway. This work will not impede progress of berm construction, and vegetation removal is already underway in preparation for that work to begin in the spring.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

All feedback will be presented to the Engineering Department for consideration in the final pedestrian walkway and berm design.
