Ms. Alice Rigney is a Dene Elder from Fort Chipewyan. Originally born on Lake Athabasca, she spent her childhood on the land and in a traditional way. Ms. Rigney is one of approximately 25 people who speak Denesuline fluently and so she is a strong advocate for language preservation in her family and community. Language connects us to our ancestors, the land and each other. You may have heard Ms. Rigney on CKLB radio sharing one of her many stories. She carries a library of knowledge.
