What should I wear to a photography pop-up?

Those participating in a photography pop-up or everyday life video session are encouraged to wear what feels most authentic to them. Please be mindful that if you are wearing black, adding a colourful scarf or necklace will help ensure you do not fade into the photo. Please refrain from wearing obvious branded clothing.

Can children participate in the photo tour?

Yes! Minors are welcomed to join the photography pop-up tour alongside their parent or guardian with consent from the parent or guardian. Upon arrival, a consent form must be signed with valid I.D. to participate.

What is a pop-up photo session?

Throughout the month of August, Crystal Mercredi and Lucas Seaward will be touring through the region with the sole purpose to capture the incredible and diverse everyday life of people in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo! This is you, your family, your pets, and the parts of your life that connect you to the region. A pop-up photo session refers to the day or days in which Crystal and Lucas will be in your area. All you need to do is meet them at the specific time and location to participate. Register now to participate at a pop-up photo session near you by clicking here.

Please Note: A consent form must be signed upon arrival to participate. The photos may be used for a mural being placed at Kiyām Community Park, or, as part of a national campaign showcasing our region.

How will my photo or video be used?

The photos and videos captured during the region-wide Pop-Up Photography Tour will become a part of the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo place brand and used on a larger scale to promote the region. That means your picture could be seen in advertisements, brochures and more! See this video from the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo in-region campaign as an example.

Your photo could also be selected for a mural project at Kiyām  Community Park that will use a collage of portraits and images from the photography tour as a representation of the people, places, cultures and traditions within the region.

Can I have a copy of the photos taken of me?

Due to the large scale of this region-wide photography tour, we will not be able to accommodate a shared photo process. Instead, we invite you to look for your photo in the mural, Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo place brand initiatives and/or national campaign launch.

What is the mentorship opportunity about?

Where and when could I see my photo?

What is an Everyday Life video?

Throughout the month of August, Crystal Mercredi and Lucas Seaward will be touring through the region with the sole purpose to capture the incredible and diverse everyday life of people in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo! But what is an everyday life video?  All you need to do is answer the question "What is it about your life that truly connects you to the region?" and let us capture your response in a video. Register now to participate in an everyday life video by clicking here.

Please Note: A consent form must be signed upon arrival to participate. The videos may be used as part of a national campaign showcasing our region.

Can I join at a location that is not in my area?

While you can have your photo taken at a location that is not where you reside, in most cases, it will make more sense to participate in your area. We do encourage you to consider what connects you to this region and why so that it can be showcased in your photo or in an everyday life video.

Do I have to register to join the pop-up photo session or Everyday Life video session?

Everyone is welcomed to join the photography pop-ups without registration! It is recommended to pre-register for the Everyday Life videos so that the videographer can prepare for the session. Pre-planning how, when, and where the video is recorded helps in successfully showcasing what connects you to the region. For example, if you have been a fisher in the region for a few decades, our videographer would like to go out on a boat with you to capture you doing what you love!

How will the health and safety of participants be managed during this tour?

Your health and safety is top priority for our team. When we arrive on location, our team will be fully prepared to mask, and make hand sanitizer available during your session. Our friendly photographers will make sure you are feeling comfortable and safe by asking about keeping distance before working with you, and have prepared a variety of camera gear that allows for zooming in to help keep participants healthy.
