 What’s Disc Golf?

Disc golf is played much like golf, except instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc. The sport was formalized in the 1970s and shares with golf and the object of completing each hole in the fewest strokes. The sport can be played in any season and with any disc.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is adding another amenity to their recreation facilities with the installation of an 18-hole disc golf course in Stonecreek in the Timberlea area. Disc golf is a growing recreational sport that the residents of the RMWB have been playing in the three courses in the region; Vista Ridge, Rotary Golf Course and Lion’s Park.

The Wood Buffalo Disc Golf Association is the local club to Fort McMurray. They are a passionate group that wants to bring attention to the fun activity that is disc golf.

In late 2021, there will be selective tree clearing to create the course. New trees, planting material and landforms will be introduced to encourage new habitats throughout the course.
