Let's talk about windrows

Let's talk about windrows, including the "Snow Boot" attachment that can temporarily block windrows (snowbanks) while plowing. We know many of you find windrows at the end of your driveway a challenge. But we also know that many of you expect your street to be plowed regularly to avoid ruts and snow & ice build up. We have seen videos and heard about the snowplow attachment (Snow Boot) that is able to temporarily block windrows and looked into the feasibility of this option. The Snow Boot was designed for streets with driveways a few meters apart as snow builds up under the plow quicker when the attachment is being used, with the snow being released along the side of the road in areas without a driveway. The driveways on residential streets in Fort McMurray are only a couple feet apart, which means the majority of the time the snow being collected under the plow when the Snow Boot is being used would need to be released in front of a driveway. Unfortunately, this is not feasible as it would leave some residents with gigantic windrows and others with none. There are also concerns with the additional maintenance and costs associated with the Snow Boot. We are always looking for ways to improve municipal services, including the Winter Maintenance Zone program. So let's here some suggestions on ways to minimize the impact of windrows and keep our roads safe and accessible during the winter.
